  1.
  2.
  3. Hi everyone!(or the three people who still read this mailing list xD)  It’s been a while since the last UAS Minicon, and it’s time to spin it back up!  I’m sure there’s people that have joined the space since the last one ran.
  4.
  5.
  6. Quick History: started with Textile (Ben Smith) as “Textile Sewer/soiree” back in 2011 in the super early days of UAS.
  7.
  8. Forgotten (🍕) Took over running the Minicon, and I think that’s where it was name-changed to minicon.
  9.
  10. Can’t remember if anyone else ran it before I took it over in around 2018 and ran it till 2020, where it went on hiatus for a while for some reason 🤔
  11.
  12. Since no one else has spun it back up, I’ve decided to!
  13.
  14. For the new folks, and a recap for all, here’s how the Minicon works:
  15.
  16.     It’s a lowkey, informal day of talks with subjects from entry level, to PhD level and everything in between
  17.
  18.     Talks can be anything, we once had a talk and live demo of axe throwing!
  19.
  20.     We want to hear about that neat project you’re working on, from infosec, programming, hardware hacking, arts, etc. almost anything goes.
  21.
  22.     It’s a great place to practice your upcoming talk at a conference, we may have had people demo Defcon, ShmooCon, and Blackhat talks.
  23.
  24.     I offer recording if the speaker Opts in, by default it’s not recorded.
  25.
  26.         I have cameras, but could use a microphone.
  27.
  28.     I don’t plan on streaming the talks for now, this will be an in person event. (I could be convinced to change this tho)
  29.
  30.         (I want to keep this as low pressure for any new to public speaking)
  31.         Also subjects often get more juicy and interesting when the cameras are off
  32.
  33.     In the past there's been around 15 to 40 people attending.
  34.
  35.     I’m going to try to run this every quarter or so.
  36.
  37.     As always, this is a free event.
  38.
  39.
  40. For this next Minicon I’m planning for a mid/late spring weekend.
  41. If you're wanting to present, and there's dates that DO NOT work, please let me know.
  42.
  43.
  44. If you’re interested in presenting, or just wanna run some ideas, feel free to reach out to me.
  45.
  46. I’m on the UAS Discord and Slack both of which have minicon channels.
  47.
  48. Also feel free to email me at justin @ ifconfig.pro  (please put “UAS Minicon” in subject)
  49. (or reply here)
  50.
  51. I hope to see you there!
